Center for Microbial Secondary Metabolites, CeMiSt, is a 9th generation Center of Excellence (CoE), funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF), and established to unravel the roles and impact of microbial secondary metabolites in natural microbial systems.
The Center was established in January 2018 with an initial six-year funding period. In 2023, the Center received an additional four years of funding, extending its activities until 2028. The Center is led by Professor Lone Gram.
CeMiSt is located within and integrated into the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The Center brings together expertise in microbial ecology and physiology with some of the most advanced technologies in genetic analysis and natural product chemistry through close collaboration with DTU Department of Chemistry (DTU Chemistry) and, until its recent closure, The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain).
